To honour Nelson Mandela and his selfless contribution to humanity, the MSA team KZN decided to dedicate their 67 minutes to volunteer for a good cause by donating readers and storytelling at a paediatrics department in Prince Mshiyeni Hospital on 18 May 2022. As the third term for SA schools was commencing on the 19th of July 2022, we thought it would be a great idea to give hope to children who are admitted to the hospital for various reasons and who are from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The hospital's management well received the idea. We donated Thokozani Big Books for Grades R to 3 and did storytelling using the Grade 1 book (the story was about healthy eating) where children gathered around the table and the MSA KZN Provincial Sales & Marketing Manager, Mr Sibonelo Mkhasibe, read the story for the children.
MSA KZN Provincial Sales Representative, Miss Sane Ngubane assisted children of younger ages in interpreting the pictures in the Grade R Thokozani readers. The kids loved it and they were able to differentiate between good and bad foods. The books were stored in the hospital's playroom for children and will be shared by children whenever they have time during their hospital stay. The hospital staff thanked Macmillan KZN for such a thoughtful initiative and for giving hope to the children.
Literacy is the best gift one can give a child. We care.
