More than 630 schools and 320 000 learners were affected by the floods in KwaZulu-Natal during April this year, of which 101 schools are currently inaccessible for teachers and learners. 124 schools suffered extensive damage to their buildings with all material completely gone.
The Department of Basic Education appealed for assistance from publishers to assist with the replacement of textbooks that were lost or damaged in the floods. Macmillan Education South Africa pledged their support, and textbooks for Gr 1 to 12 to the value of R205 162.63 were donated.
